A new standard of luxury in Tasmanian hotels
Opened in December 2021, The Tasman Hobart is part of the Marriott Luxury Collection, a suite of five-star hotels around the world. The Tasman Hobart’s design and architecture speak to Tasmania’s rich and diverse history. The luxury hotel is set in the heart of Hobart behind Parliament house. A U-shaped design incorporates an 1840’s heritage building, a 1940’s art deco building, and a contemporary Pavilion wing. The heritage-rich architecture so quintessential of Hobart are unmistakable in the Heritage wing, and the hotel’s sandstone facade. This connects it with the surrounding architecture. The hotel also boasts dining and bar options that set it beautifully within the precinct.
Designer Joseph Pang has integrated the Heritage elements of the 1840s to 1930s with modern design, working closely with FJMT Architects. Pang ensures the three eras are distinct yet blend seamlessly together so that the whole space ‘feels’ like The Tasman Hobart throughout. An “integration of the past and the future.” Guests can choose from 152 lavishly appointed rooms and suites with soaring ceilings and state-of-the-art technology. Selected rooms have fireplaces, and water views or a leafy vista over iconic St David’s Park. Options include the Heritage Room or the St David’s Park Suite in the Heritage wing, or the Panoramic or Deluxe Room in the art-deco building. The contemporary Pavilion or Aurora Suites accommodates views of the harbour and Mt Wellington.
Deconstructing The Tasman Hobart bathrooms
As expected, The Tasman Hobart’s designer Pang has gone all-out on luxury in the hotel’s bathrooms. Most suites or rooms offer a European bath, generous rainfall showers and marble basins. The centrepiece in each Heritage Room and Pavilion wing bathroom is the BetteStarlet Oval Silhouette from European luxury brand, Bette (available through Argent). The BetteStarlet is a perfect symmetry of smooth clean lines and glazed titanium steel. Pang chose a white bath. This pairs beautifully with the cool-toned marble. White is equally at home with black accents in tapware and accessories in the Heritage Rooms and chrome accents in the Pavilion Suites.
When it comes to hotels of this calibre, luxury and style are paramount. However, as with any hotel, durability is equally important. Bette is always the right choice for high-end, luxury projects for this reason.
Why this Bette bath?
- Durable. The glazed titanium steel material is not only incredibly robust, but is also extremely light. BetteGlaze® makes the surface of the bath harder than marble, plastic or steel. The glass-hard, non-porous surface is also extremely easy to clean. Bette baths are scratch proof, stain-resistant, heat-resistant and UV resistant. There is no other manufacturer in the world using these materials.
- Sustainable. Bette baths are made from natural raw materials, steel, and glass. And Bette has been committed to sustainability since its inception in 1952. The Bette bath is built to last beautifully for 30 years. In fact, Bette guarantees it. The glazed bathroom elements are also 100% recyclable.
- Luxurious. BetteGlaze® is the perfect heat conductor, quickly absorbing the warmth of the bathwater. This helps heat your bath and keep it warmer for longer. The BetteStarlet Silhouette is a deep freestanding bath which is simply perfect for a 5-star setting like The Tasman Hobart. It allows guests to stretch out languidly for hours and is also big enough to accommodate two people.
- Elegant. The oval silhouette offers a sense of harmony and timeless elegance that is right at home in The Tasman Hobart. The understated and attractive shape allows Pang to marry contemporary and heritage elements with ease. There’s nothing too hard, angular, or gimmicky. Just classic shapes that will stand the test of time. The bath’s clear surface balances marble elements, painted sandstone and black tapware and accessories.
